Lazily stretched out on the sunny slopes of Mont Jorogne, the village of Gryon displays its authentic and unique character.
Built on a precipice, overhanging the valley created by the Avançon River, it features a harmonious collection of buildings, including several clusters of old chalets in the characteristic architecture.
The proud spire of its clock tower leads the visitor to the centre of the village. It is a must to stop here and listen, everything has something to say: the church, the linden tree, and the fountain erected by the work of human hands. These crossroads have witnessed all the activities, which created the town. They hold such a wealth of memories that one is forced to be quiet and listen, and believe that these stones, these beams have a memory of their own and are communicating a message.
Gryon has had its dark periods, the plague, the fire of 1719, the struggle for independence, but it also has known many happy times and has been praised by poets, such as Juste Olivier and Eugène Rambert.
We cordially invite you to come and admire our ancient facades, the tiny, narrow lanes, not to forget the "Maison du Terroir" where the products and works of our regional artisans are displayed for sale.
For a virtual visit or to assist you in exploring the village, you can download the little guide
and the Juste Olivier trail
, which are also available at the Gryon Tourist Office or the Town Hall.
